Lisa Schwab - Community Champion Award
A native Californian, Lisa Schwab has always had deep love and respect for the state’s immense natural resources and has dedicated much of her life to the protection and preservation of wildlife. She is a long-time supporter of the Friends of Ballona Wetlands and is proud of the tireless efforts by this amazing group of dedicated staff and volunteers who everyday educate, advocate, restore and protect this important Ecosystem.
She learned the importance of preserving natural habitats while volunteering with the Friends of Madrona Marsh, reforestation projects in the Angeles National Forest, her work with both the Mono Lake Basin and Lake Tahoe Restoration Projects and the Catalina Island Conservancy. In addition, she supports several environmental champions including Heal the Bay and her many generous contributions to water and sanitation projects through Rotary International.
Lisa is the owner of Cantalini's Salerno Beach Restaurant in Playa Del Rey. Being raised in Hawthorne by her Italian Grandparents, she learned at an early age the importance of being a good neighbor and to serve your community. She is a Past President of the Playa Venice Rotary Club and has served on that Board for over a decade. She is a member of many local Service Clubs including the Westchester Elks Lodge, where she has served as Past President of the Ladies of the Westchester Elks and currently serves as Trustee. Additionally, Lisa serves on the Executive Board for Airport Marina Counseling Service and has served on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Women Warriors.
For nearly two decades she has been a member of the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce, where she had the distinct honor of serving as Honorary Mayor. She is a graduate of the Leadership Academy and has served on the Board of Directors. Lisa volunteers with numerous organizations and has worked for decades to help those living with HIV/Aids, to end discrimination, and find a cure through her work with APLA, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Trevor Project to name a few. She works directly with the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center to support those struggling with Homelessness, Addiction and Domestic Violence as well as supporting Mental Health and Senior Services throughout our community.
There is a special place in her heart for education and she believes a successful future lies in the support of our youth. Lisa is a longtime supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Venice and the Mar Vista Family Center. Through Cantalini’s, she provides food for many local charities including Step Up On Second, Safe Place for Youth, Naomi House and the Homeless Teens at the LGBT Youth Center in Los Angeles.
Lisa is the recipient of several community awards including the City of Angels “Howard B. Drollinger Achievement Award”, "Rotarian of the Year", the LAX Coastal Area Chamber of Commerce "Friend of Education Award”, “Elks Distinguished Citizen Award”, “Unwavering Support” Commendation by Venice High School and “Star of the Neighborhood Award” from the Westchester Playa Del Rey Neighborhood Council.
